INTRODUCTION AND STATISTICAL INFORMATION

The publication Health Information of India is
the regular annual Health statistical publication compiled and
brought out by the Central Bureau of Health Intelligence. This
publication was called Health Statistics of India
earlier.

The
first issue of the publication, Health Statistics of India 1951-53
contained information for the years 1951, 1952 and 1953. The second
publication, brought out in February, 1958 included information for
the years 1954 and 1955.

| The
3rd issue of the publication relates to 1956 and 1957;
the 4th issue to the year 1958; 5th issue to
the years 1959 and 1960; 6th issue to the years 1961 and
1962. The 7th issue contained data for 1963,
8th issue contained data for the years 1964 and 1965,
9th issue relates to 1966 to 1970 and the 10th
issue is for the years 1971 to 1975.

Meanwhile,
a summary publication titled Pocket Book of Health
Statistics of India was started from 1974 issue onwards and
continued on yearly basis upto the year 1980, totally 7 issues with
the said title. The 8th issue relating to the year 1981
of Pocket Book of Health Statistics of India was renamed as health
Statistics of India. The Health Statistics of India series continued
upto the year 1985, annually.

Again,
from 1986 onwards, the Health Statistics of India was renamed as
Health Information of India . The Pocket Book
series which started in 1974 thus continued with the changed names
and coverage, and under the series, the issue relating to 1986
became the 13th Edition.

| The
Health Information of India annual issues for the years 1987 to
1994- Editions 14 to 21 continued regularly. The 22nd
issue became a combined issue for the years 1995 and 1996 and the
23rd issue also became the combined issue for the years
1997 and 1998.The 1999 issue is the
24th in this series. The 2000 & 2001 combined
issue is the 25th in the series.

For
the years 1985 to 1989 a separate summary publication titled
Hand book of Health Statistics was brought out
annually and the hand book issue ended with the 1989 issue – the
5th Edition in the series.

printed copies of the publication “Health Information of India”
are available on sale with the Controller of Publications,
Department of Publications, Govt. of India, Civil Lines, New Delhi
110 054 or the book shops authorised to sell Govt. of India
publications in different places. The latest published volume
relating to the years 2005. The issues of 1993,1994 and 1995 & 96, 1997 & 98 and
1999 cost Rs. 117.00,Rs.
112.00 and 173.00, Rs.188.00 and Rs434.00 respectively.
